On Page SEO Strategy

Critical Steps for Ranking Your Website On Search Engines

Step 1 Proper Domain Name Setup

Make sure you add some of your keywords inside your domain name. Although there are different opinion amongst SEOs as to whether this will be considered “spammy”. However, i am of the opinion that if you make it too obvious, then that will definitely get you into trouble.

Example

Your company name is Richard Floney Ltd and you provide towing services in Toronto

https://richardfloneytowing.ca or richardfloneytowservices.ca  ( noticed the mixture of company name and services ) plus the “.ca” domain name extension (targeting Canada)

Make your URLs SEO Friendly

Set your permalinks to “post name” so that your URLs ends up looking like this:

https://richardfloneytowing.com/your-keywords

Example

https://richardcompany.com/towing-services-toronto

Secure your domain with https

Google rewards websites that use HTTPS encryption with a possible boost in ranking.

Step 2 Title Tag setup

Insert your keywords plus the city you want to rank for inside your webpage’s title tags. Preferably use Yoast plugin.

Example

24hrs Towing Services Toronto — Richard Floney Ltd

Step 3 H1 header Tag Setup

For your <h1> header tags, ideally, use a keyword phrase that is relevant to “Towing Services” to modify it.

Example

Car Towing Services Toronto

Step 4 Content Setup

Create and curate rich contents for each of your web pages and posts. Depending on the type of business you operate, ideally use at least 500 optimized words, Geotagged relevant images, informative videos, infographics and other useful resources that would keep your site visitors engaged on your website.

Tip: Perform a keyword research for your niche, analyze your competitor’s keywords, sprinkle Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) keywords in your content.

Step 5 Optimize your contents

For 500 words, make sure your keyword or keyword phrase is mentioned like twice ( H1 header tag included) in the first 100 words and supported by Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) keywords

Example

For Towing Services, I found these LSI keywords by looking up the keyword phrase on Google (car towing services Toronto, cheap tow truck, cheap towing). So, I will place them strategically in the 500 words together with my primary keyword phrase “towing services”

Optimize the images by placing your target keywords in the ALT text fields and also make sure the image file names are saved with the keyword you are targetting.
i.e.  towing services.png | Alt Text, Toronto-services

Step 6 Internal Linking & Keyword Soloing

Ensure that your website is structured in such a way that the web pages are grouped and linked together according to topics and relevancy.

Example

Towing services > Subpages → Heavy Towing, Flatbed Towing, Equipment Towing, Specialty Towing. The subpages should also link strategically to each other using anchor text

Step 7 Page Speed

Check your page speed using Google “page speed insight” and make sure your website has a score of 85-100 for both mobile and desktop. Also, use “pingdom.com” and make sure that your site loads under 4 seconds.

Step 8 Responsive Design

Ensure that your website is responsive to every mobile devices and tablet.

Step 9 Scheme Mark-up Setup

Use rich snippets on your website to tell search engines what the content on your website is all about. You can do it from Google search console or use a WordPress plugin.

Example

Adding a local business schema markup for “Richard Floney Ltd” tells the search engine it’s a local business in Toronto, thus, you stand a better chance of showing in the search results than a website that doesn’t have a schema markup.

10. Social Media Setup

Integrate social media and social share buttons in your website to boost your social signals — search engines view social signals to have trusted “recommendation”. Just the same way humans are more likely to buy a product that has good reviews.
